Why Work With Us?

You may have heard realtors say their clients become friends and family but this is no more evident than with Carmichael Real Estate. Service, care and attention to clients have always been our highest priorities and integrity and transparency are in everything we say and do.

Ian Carmichael

As a long time real estate broker on Lake of the Woods Vacation Area, Ian has insider knowledge when it comes to waterfront property in and around Ontario’s Lake of the Woods. He has been navigating this area his entire life and there are precious few who know the lake better. His grandfather George was a mayor of Kenora who resided in the stately Carmichael house at the top of Matheson Street almost his entire life. Ian’s father, Terry Carmichael, was born and raised in that same house. The love of the lake, and Kenora, runs very deep in the Carmichael family.

Ian is available 7 days a week. There is no such thing as a bad time to list or buy waterfront property and he’s at your service whenever genuine assistance is desired. He offers expertise in road access and island cottaging and can speak first hand to the benefits of both. Having lived in the city and been part of the Friday traffic to family cottages he also knows this specific clientele better than most. Call him anytime at 807-466-2236  for prompt and personal attention.

Jo-Anne van der Krabben

Jo-Anne van der Krabben efficiently runs the office as the Executive Controller. She has been working in the Carmichael office since 2002 doing all office duties including bookkeeping, payroll, clerical/computer work and website updating, while supporting and assisting Ian. Jo-Anne is highly focused, prepared and dedicated to providing earnest customer care and due diligence to make your buying or selling experience as seamless as possible.

In Honour of
Duncan Carmichael

The Carmichael business began over two decades ago with Duncan Carmichael, whose legacy lives on today with local residents, friends and family. Duncan passed away in 2019. Ian, also a real estate broker stepped up to continue the business later working alongside his brother, serving the needs of cottagers and waterfront property owners, for over 21 years.

Duncan’s greatest love was spending weekends and vacations at the family camp on Lake of the Woods. Driving home to Winnipeg looking into the sunsets Duncan realized his heart belonged at the lake after spending summers at the family cottage. He needed to find work in Kenora that could make lake life a reality, therefore he established Duncan Carmichael Real Estate Brokerage in 1993, dedicated to lakefront property.

His personal approach to sales created long lasting friendships with many clients. He wanted to share what he described as a “World Class Destination” on Lake of the Woods. He was always helping others enjoy “life on the lake” and wanted to share his passion for Kenora and the lake.

Duncan serviced 100’s of clients over his career. He will be remembered as a fair negotiator, an honest broker, a good listener and a closer. He worked for his clients. He single handedly raised property values to todays values.

Thank you, Duncan, for showing me how to treat and service our clients. His work ethic and drive was inspirational. Your spirit lives on and you are missed dearly by your family, friends and clients.
