Winnipeg River
The pristine Winnipeg River is fed by our Lake of the Woods and runs across Ontario’s northwest into Manitoba. Kenora as well as its nearby resort town of Minaki, about 45 minutes-drive north, are nestled in along the river system.
The Winnipeg River is known for its world-class fishing opportunities and serene Canadian landscapes and Minaki is a quiet retreat full of adventure for water enthusiasts, residents and vacation cottagers alike. In the modern community of Minaki, residents enjoy amenities that range from cross-country skiing and mountain biking to sightseeing and hiking. Local cafes, restaurants, museums, theatres and shops are available year-round in Kenora when the urge strikes for an urban experience.
The Winnipeg River stretches 56 kms from Kenora all the way past Minaki to the Whitedog dam. These waters are charted and make for a quiet, sheltered, serene boating experience exploring the shores, beaches or fishing holes along the way. As you venture further north, Pistol Lake, Sand Lake, Big Sand Lake and Roughrock Lake are all connected to this fabulous river system.
